Voice care requests for nursing homes

Every request, heard and handled.

Residents ask out loud. AskLight turns the request into a clear task on staff phones and the station board — so the right person knows what's needed before they walk in.

  • Listens only when a resident starts it
  • Audio deleted after processing
  • Unclear requests go to a person

The everyday problem

A call light says someone needs help. Not what, or who's going.

On a busy unit, every call means a walk to the room to find out. Staff can't tell water from a toilet transfer, and no one can see who's already on it.

“Who's answering room 12?”

Several people respond — or no one does, because everyone assumes someone else has it.

“What do they need?”

An extra trip to ask, then another to fetch the water, the blanket or a second person for a transfer.

“How long have they waited?”

Without a record, response times are guesswork — for the unit, for administrators and for families.

How it works

Ask. Understand. Handle.

Three steps, all visible to your team.

01

A resident asks

They press the button on the room device and say what they need, in their own words.

02

AskLight understands

AI turns the words into a request — water, bathroom, mobility, comfort and more — or sends unclear speech to a person.

03

The right person handles it

Staff phones alert. One person claims it, everyone sees who's on it, and it's completed with a timestamped record.

The product

Built from the real thing.

This is AskLight's actual interface, recreated with fictional rooms. One board for the station, an app for every phone.

Columns for Needs review, New, Claimed and In progress. Overdue requests and repeat asks stand out; supervisors see escalations.

Water

A clear, direct request.

Shows the handling our labelled test set expects for each phrase — the policy AskLight is built to follow, not a live AI result or an accuracy figure. Speech in a real room varies; anything unclear goes to a person.

Private by design

It listens when asked. Then forgets.

The resident is in control. The device starts paused, listens only after a press, and audio is deleted as soon as it has been processed.

How we handle audio
  1. Resident presses start

Paused until then. Nothing heard, nothing sent.

  2. Speech becomes a short clip

Sent over an encrypted connection. Silence isn't sent; pausing clears unsent audio.

  3. AI understands the request

A category and a short summary appear as a task.

  4. Audio deleted

Staff see the task — not a recording.

AI that knows its limits

Useful AI. Honest about what it isn't.

When AskLight isn't sure, it asks a person instead of guessing. And there are things it will never claim to be.

How our AI decides

What AskLight is not

  • Not an emergency system. Keep your nurse call system and emergency procedures.
  • Not a diagnosis tool. It routes requests; it doesn't interpret health.
  • Not always-on listening. Residents start and pause it.
  • Not a replacement for staff. It helps people get to the right room with the right thing.

The room device

One button. One light. That's it.

A small device for each room. Press to start or pause listening; long-press to ask for help without speaking. It connects to your Wi-Fi and is set up from a phone — no computer in the room.

  • Starts paused; the light shows when it's listening
  • Long-press sends help with no audio and no AI
  • Set up from a phone with a one-time code

Frequently asked questions

Is AskLight an emergency system?

No. AskLight is not an emergency system and does not replace your nurse call system, fall detection or emergency procedures. It adds what a resident needs and who is handling it for everyday requests. Distress wording is flagged prominently, but you should always keep your existing emergency processes.

Is the device always listening?

No. The device starts paused. It only listens after the resident presses its button, and it only sends short clips of speech while started. Pressing again pauses it and clears any audio not yet sent.

What happens to the audio?

Clips are sent securely, processed, and deleted as soon as processing finishes. Staff see the request — room, category, a short summary — not a recording.

Does it replace our call bells?

No. AskLight works alongside your nurse call system. Call bells tell staff that someone needs help; AskLight tells them what is needed and who is on it.

What if the AI isn't sure what the resident meant?

It doesn't guess. Unclear speech goes to a supervisor's review list. A person decides whether it becomes a task.

What if a resident can't speak clearly, or AI is unavailable?

A long-press on the device sends a help request with no audio and no AI. It works even if AI processing is paused or down.

Do staff need new equipment?

Staff use the AskLight app on their phones and the station board in a web browser. Each room gets a small AskLight device that connects to your Wi-Fi.

How much does it cost?

Pricing depends on your number of rooms and units. We'll go through it on a short pilot conversation.
