Nursing homes · Night shift

Fewer staff at night. Fewer wasted trips.

At night, one aide may cover a whole hallway. Knowing whether it's water or a two-person transfer before walking in changes the shift.

The challenge

What makes it hard.

Long walks to find out

Every call means a trip to ask, and often a second trip to fetch or find help.

Two-person tasks

Transfers and repositioning need a colleague — but you only find out once you're in the room.

Calls overlap

When two rooms call at once, there's no easy way to decide which first, or who takes which.

How AskLight helps

What changes with AskLight.

Request on your phone

“New care request” on the lock screen; open the app to see the room and what's needed.

Bring help the first time

Mobility and bathroom requests are labelled, so you can grab a colleague before you go.

Split the work

Claim one, leave the other for your colleague — the board shows who has what.

Nothing slips overnight

Unclaimed requests are flagged overdue for the supervisor, and open tasks carry over to the next shift.

It's the difference between “someone called” and “room 117 needs help back into bed”.

Questions

Will alerts wake residents?

Alerts go to staff phones and the station board, not to the resident's room. Staff choose their phone's sound and vibration settings.

What if the night supervisor is also on the floor?

Supervisors see escalations on the board and in the app. Escalation is shown on screens; it isn't a guaranteed page, so set your escalation time to suit your staffing.
