It listens when asked. Then forgets.

The resident starts and pauses the device. Only short clips of speech are sent while it's started, and they're deleted as soon as they've been processed.

Privacy controls in detail

  • Paused by default. A newly set-up device starts paused. Nothing is captured until the resident presses the button.
  • Speech only, in short clips. The device detects speech and sends short clips — not continuous audio, not silence.
  • Pause clears. Pausing, or an administrator disabling or revoking the device, clears audio that hasn't been sent.
  • Private storage, no public links. Clips wait in private storage until processed. There are no shareable audio URLs.
  • Deleted after processing. Audio is deleted as soon as processing finishes. A cleanup sweep and a storage lifecycle rule remove anything left behind, and overdue deletions are surfaced to operators.
  • Brief task record. The task keeps a short summary and the triggering words, for a limited, configured period.
  • No audio in logs. Audio and AI provider error messages that might echo content aren't written to logs.
  • The room, not the person. AskLight routes by room. It doesn't identify residents.

Frequently asked questions

Can staff listen to what a resident said?

No. Staff see the request — category, a short summary and the words that triggered it — not a recording. Audio is deleted after processing.

Can AskLight employees see our residents' requests?

AskLight's internal tools show operational information such as device health and usage, not customer audio or request content. Any future support access to content would need to be explicit, time-limited and recorded.

Is audio used to train AI models?

AskLight does not use your residents' audio to train models. Clips are sent to a paid AI developer API for processing and then deleted from AskLight's storage.

Do you identify residents?

No. AskLight knows the room a request came from, not who the resident is. Don't enter resident names into AskLight fields.
